OAKFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says a man is in custody in connection with the suspected shooting deaths of two people and three separate fires early Monday in Oakfield and Island Falls.

Matthew Davis, 32, of Houlton was taken into custody around 10:45am. Investigators say troopers found him in a stolen vehicle on Beaver Dam Road in Island Falls.

The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a house at 331 Oakfield-Smyrna Road by firefighters when they arrived before dawn. The scene is one of three fires that happened in Oakfield and Island Falls.

Southern Aroostook School in Dyer Brook has been closed for the day. Superintendent Larry Malone says he was advised by police to cancel school due to an "ongoing investigation" in the area.

State Police area working with the State Fire Marshall's office to investigate the fire scenes.
