BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - To try to reach more victims of domestic violence in more areas, the resource center's Spruce Run in Penobscot County and Womancare in Piscataquis county have merged together.

Now called The Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance, the group will serve anyone affected by domestic violence and engage their two counties in efforts to eliminate violence all together. Amanda Cost, who is the program coordinator for The Alliance, says that after a year in a half of planning the merger she's excited to utilize the additional resources.

"More staff people, more volunteers, more community partners coming together from a greater region to really look at how can we continue to provide the services, high quality services, that we always have," said Cost.

The new alliance has already scheduled a full list of events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The next one scheduled is the 16th annual Race To End Domestic Abuse. The race will be held at the Guilford Athletic Fields on Route 15 in Guilford, Maine. Registration starts at 11:30 am.
