AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - NEWS CENTER has just confirmed that an additional 126 members of the Maine National Guard have been furloughed.
That is in addition to the 280 from yesterday. A spokesperson for the Guard says another 50 state employees who work at the Maine National Guard who are paid with federal dollars may also be furloughed in the next couple of days.
Major Michael Steinbuchel says those that have been furloughed are full-time federal technicians. Along with affecting the families of those furloughed, Steinbuchel says the readiness of the National Guard and the maintainence of all its equipment and facilities will be compromised.
He says all of the Guard's members are hoping for a speedy resolution to the government shutdown so everybody can get back to work as soon as possible.
