San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The United States women's national team struck twice in the opening 12 minutes on Sunday en route to a 4-1 victory over New Zealand in a friendly encounter at Candlestick Park.
The Americans wasted no time finding the back of the net as Megan Rapinoe blasted home a free kick just seven minutes into the contest. Five minutes later it was 2-0 for the U.S. when Carli Lloyd ripped home her 46th career international goal.
Christen Press added a third goal for the U.S. three minutes prior to the break, but Hannah Wilkinson pulled one back for New Zealand in the 54th minute.
The Americans, however, were undeterred by the goal and added a fourth tally through Heather O'Reilly to cap the rout.
The U.S. women will next take the pitch against New Zealand in another international friendly on Oct. 30 in Columbus, Ohio.
