(NEWS CENTER) -- Shrimp fishermen in Maine thought they had it bad last winter when federal regulators dramatically shortened the shrimp season.
This winter may be much worse. It looks as though the 2014 shrimp season may be cancelled altogether.
According to a newspaper in Massachusetts, a regulatory committee will recommend there be no shrimping in the Gulf of Maine next year.
Regulators are likely to take that step to try to rebuild the shrimp population, which scientists say has dropped to its lowest level since records began being kept.
168 boats from Maine took part in last winter's shrimp season.
