ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- It's the biggest of its kind anywhere in the state, drawing hundreds of job seekers. The University of Maine Career Fair kicked off today inside the campus's New Balance Rec Center. Students from every part of U-Maine came out to network and explore options.
In their most professional attire and with their resumes in hand, the University of Maine students crowded the Rec Center- looking to make that first step toward a career.
This year the fair featured one hundred and twenty six employers. Students from all colleges, universities from across the state were invited to show up and talk to many different kinds of businesses. Companies represented were looking for students to fill internship positions, part time jobs, and full time careers. Nearly half of the employers present consisted of UMaine alumni.
Director of the University of Maine's Career Center, Patty Counihan, says, "Because we've been doing it for sixteen years, now we have emplyors who are here to recruit for their companies who started out at the fair as students getting hired as interns, which then turned into full time job offers when they were seniors And now they're back looking to hire interns. So it's a full circle."
Counihan says she's spoken with several seniors who got internships at last year's career fair and have now accepted full time positions for after graduation. She's proud of their success and says that's what today is all about.
