MILLINOCKET, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Cross country skiers are treated well in Millinocket. The Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club maintains nearly 20 miles of cross country ski trails and makes them available free to the public.

"We're encouraging people to come up from Southern Maine," said volunteer Don Nodine. He leads a corp of people who groom the trails with set tracks after every storm and before each weekend.

The land is owned by Northern Forest Management. The trails are under the auspices of the Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club. This was originally a snowmobile club which has welcomed ATVers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers.

Each group has specific trails for them. Snowshoers are welcomed on the side of the cross country ski trail. Snowmobilers have specific trails as do ATVers.

The president of the club says they want to be an important part of Millinocket's future. "We had a paper industry here for years and years and that always kept the area going," said Don Madore. Now we're transitioning to other things, tourism is going to be a part of it."

The Northern Timber Cruisers are taking proactive approach in welcoming all winter enthusiasts to their region.
