(NEWS CENTER) --We want to take a moment to tell you that a longtime friend and colleague of ours here at NEWS CENTER has died in California after a long battle with cancer.

Ann Murray was a reporter and anchor on this station in the 1990s.
For the past decade, she had been battling breast cancer that had later spread to other parts of her body.

Anyone who watched her while she was sick could not help but be struck by her grit, humor and determination.

No matter how bad the news about her health, Ann fought back.
She had a fierce will to live, to enjoy every moment of her life, and to share her experience with other people fighting cancer -- which she did with a documentary film, a book, and countless speeches.

Ann Murray was 48. She leaves behind her husband, Sandy, their two children, and many friends here in Maine.
