(NEWS CENTER) -- Spring is one of the most popular times to buy and sell a house. This weekend is Maine Open House weekend and offers buyers the opportunity to see homes all over Maine.
Broker Chris Saladino said the Maine March housing market numbers show something unusual, with the median house price going down by four percent, but activity was by by 12 percent. The price drop is something Maine hadn't seen since last July, said Saladino. For the quarter, the activity was up 10.25 percent and the price was up almost one percent.
"I always like to look long term, said Saladino. "The price drop in March has taken a few by surprise."
Saladino said he thinks the price drop is due to more first time buyers and investors in the market after a tough winter.
While looking at prices over the last 10 years, Saladino said if a buyer's goals are long term, the growth is there.
