Cory Monteith's final film 'McCanick' hits theaters
Fans of Cory Monteith will finally be able to see his last role on the big screen. The late Glee star, who died of a toxic mix of alcohol and heroin this past July, plays a young street hustler just out of jail in the crime thriller McCanick. The movie, directed by Josh C. Waller, is in theaters today.
SeaWorld turns 50
SeaWorld rings in its 50th anniversary today. The chain of marine animal-themed parks is facing public pressure to end the captivity of its orcas, better known as killer whales. Calls for change — including a bill in California — have been mounting months after the release of a documentary called Blackfish. The 2013 film documents the death of SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau in 2010 by Tilikum, a 12,000-pound killer whale previously linked to two other deaths.
Mt. Gox finds some missing Bitcoins
Major Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox says it has found 200,000 of the 850,000 pieces of the virtual currency it said it lost in late February before it filed for bankruptcy.
Happy birthday Twitter
The social media company that made its mark by encouraging brevity, limiting users to 140 characters or less, turns eight today. To celebrate, Twitter is taking millions of its users back to their first tweets. The microblogging service launched a website, called first-tweets.com, that lets users search their own account or those of others to find their first tweet.
11 jurors will weigh ex-Madoff employees' fate
Deliberations in the trial of five former employees of Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernard Madoff are set to resume today after the defense and prosecution agreed to go forward without a juror whose illness stalled the case for three days. Jurors heard testimony from more than 40 witnesses and saw dozens of exhibits in the case focused on charges the defendants knowingly conspired in and and profited from the fraud that stole an estimated $20 billion from thousands of investors worldwide.
