WALDO COUNTY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- On March 28, Waldo County Sheriff's Office was notified by school officials that a 7-year-old male student was reporting physical abuse by the child's father.
Deputy Oettinger contacted the Department of Health and Human Services and notified them of the complaint. Deputy Oettinger then conducted an interview with the student regarding the alleged abuse.
As a result of the interview Deputy Oettinger learned that the 7-year-old student alleged he had been assaulted by his father by being kicked repeatedly in the leg, back and head. The student also disclosed other forms of discipline including the use of a shock collar intended for use on animals. The student alleged this type of abuse/discipline was also used on his 9-year-old sister.
Based on the above disclosure Deputy Oettinger again contacted the Department of Health and Human Services to advise them of the nature of the disclosure. The children's father, James Kuhn, 28, of Brooks was arrested by Detective Reed of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office at Kuhn's residence. Custody of the children has been turned over to their mother.
James Kuhn was charged with two counts of Domestic Assault. Mr. Kuhn was released on $2,500 cash bail with bail conditions that include no contact with the children involved.
