AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Thousands of people in the racing community gathered at Northeast Motorsports Expo over the weekend.

Owner and Promoter, Stephen Perry, says it's an event that's been going on for 25 years because of such a deep rooted passion for the sport in Maine.

"This has always been the traditional kickoff to the race season, the motorsports season for that upcoming year. The tracks, they all come out, pass out their new schedules," says Perry. "Before the days of the internet, this is where you came to get your schedules."

Since then the expo has become interactive; engaging racefans-- even after 25 years.Maine native, Ricky Craven, and former driver for the late Dale Earnhardt, Steve Park, were this year's special guests.

The racing season in Mainebegins sometime in April.
