BENTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police have arrested a couple from Massachusetts on drug charges after their car was stopped on Interstate 95 in Benton.

Seized from the couple was a quantity of heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana, along with $1,395. Taken to the Kennebec County Jail was Jennifer Rubins, 28, of Mashpee and 40 year old Donnell Pina from Marson Mills. Both are charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and illegal importation of drugs.

The two were taken into custody by Trooper Jesse Duda, who stopped the rental car, driven by Rubins, for a traffic violation near mile marker 134, just after noon on Friday afternoon. The trooper asked for assistance from a drug sniffing dog and was assisted at the scene by Somerset Deputy Sheriff David Cole and his dog, which had indicated the presence of drugs.

Seized were 53 grams of heroin, 10 grams of crack and a small quantity of marijuana, along with the cash. Troopers are now trying to determine where the couple was headed. The street value of the seized drugs was over $11,000.
