WEST ROXBURY, Massachusetts (NEWS CENTER) -- Thousands gathered to honor a man who worked day in and day out to keep people safe.

Firefighters from across the country, representing all 50 states, honored Firefighter Michael Kennedy. Last Wednesday, Kennedy and Lieutenant Edward Walsh were killed in a nine alarm fire on Beacon Street in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood.

Firefighters from South Portland are among those who went to Massachusetts to pay their respects.
