BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The votes are in and the wait is over. On Friday, voting ended for the final round of the Name Our Signature Burger contest at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. With over 100 votes out of nearly 400, the name of the center's first ever signature item will be the Penobscot Poundah! The winner of the contest and creators of the popular name is Jack Keenan and The Keenan family of Bangor.
The Name our Signature Burger contest all started with the creation of sandwich - a half pound of cooked-to-perfection angus beef piled high with bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato and onion all topped with a mound of Poutine, a popular Canadian dish consisting of French fries, gravy and cheese curds nestled into a sesame seed bun. Global Spectrum and Ovations Food Services asked the public to submit the names they thought would best fit this burger. Ten names were then pulled from the list of over 1000 submissions and people were asked to vote on their favorite. With the most votes, the Penobscot Poundah was the winner.
As the winner, Keenan will receive two club level tickets to a show of his choice, along with dinner for two at the club level the night of the show chosen, name recognition in the arena and at concessions and, of course, two certificates for the newly named burger, the Penobscot Poundah.
The Penobscot Poundah will debut to the public at the Hunter Hayes concert on May 1 at Cross Insurance Center at Tapas on the Penobscot (on the concourse at section 105) or The Blue Ox Grill (on the concourse at section 115) concession stands.
If you are craving a Penobscot Poundah, on the night of its first appearance, there will be an opportunity to get the burger at a discounted price. Cross Insurance Center is introducing a "Tweet to Eat" initiative; live tweet during the concert with the hash tag #CICPenobscotPoundah and mention @CICBangor, show it at Tapas on the Penobscot (section 105) or The Blue Ox Grill (section 115) concessions and receive $1 off the mouthwatering burger.
