FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Summit Natural Gas of Maine will have a groundbreaking ceremony at the Cumberland Fairgrounds Friday to mark the beginning of the construction to install natural gas pipelines. Cumberland, Falmouth and Yarmouth are the towns receiving the lines.
The installation includes more than 66 miles of natural gas pipeline. Summit Natural Gas will hire an more than 200 workers for the construction project and make an investment of approximately $42 million. The pipeline will serve about 8,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in the three towns over the next five years.
More than 500 customers from the three towns have already signed contracts with Summit. The company said it should be able to start service in a few months
