UNITY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested two men Thursday in Unity for several drug related charges.
Over the past two months, Mid-Coast District Task Force agents investigated purchases of marijuana from Robert Hubbard, 51, and heroin from Spencer McGarey, 43, both Unity residents. Hubbard is registered as a Certified Care Giver under the Maine Medical Use Marijuana Program, but police said the investigation revealed he was selling marijuana to non-qualified patients.
Around 10 a.m. Thursday MDEA agents served a search warrant to Hubbard and McGarey's home on Short Road. Agents found 94 marijuana plants, but none of them had legible tags with patient names as the Maine Medical Use Marijuana Program requires. Officials also sized more than five pounds of processed marijuana, numerous prescription pills and three guns.
Officials transported the men to the Waldo County Jail. Police charged Hubbard with Class C Trafficking in Schedule Z Drugs (Marijuana) and Class C Possession of Hydromorphone. Police charged McGarey with Class C Trafficking in Schedule Z Drugs (Marijuana) and Class C Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin).
The investigation is continuing and is including Maine Medical Use Marijuana Program officials. State Police and deputies from the Waldo County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
