DOVER, N.H. (NEWS CENTER) -- A jury has found Seth Mazzaglia guilty on all charges in connection with the death Lizzi Marriott.
The 19-year old University of New Hampshire student disappeared in the fall of 2012. Investigators later learned she had been killed and her body dumped into the Piscataqua River. Her body has never been found. For her family the verdict was bittersweet.
"Unfortunately the trial, even with a conviction, does not console us over the loss of Lizzi. We will always miss her and wonder what could have been", said her father Bob Marriott.
The verdict came after a lengthy four week trial filled with disturbing and graphic testimony.
The most compelling testimony came from Mazzaglia's former girlfriend Kat McDonough who testified Mazzaglia ordered her to find a another woman to join them for sex. She told jurors she witnessed Mazzaglia put a rope around Lizzi Marriott's neck and strangle her, after she rejected his sexual advances. Marriott's father said the trial was torturous to sit through.
"The truth of what happened to Lizzi is around us and every time it has been told it reinforces the despair that we feel", he said.
Mazzaglia faces the rest of his life behind bars. New Hampshire laws calls for life in prison with no chance of parole for a conviction on first degree murder.
