POLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Firefighters in Poland received a new piece of equipment to help them save people and animals who have fallen through the ice.
The Amphibious Ice Rescue vehicle can travel on ice and water, making it easier for first responders to reach victims far from shore. Two years ago, the Poland Fire Department responded to an especially harrowing ice rescue that put several firefighters' lives at risk. That's why they sought out a better system for these types of emergencies, and are raising the money to pay for it themselves.
The Poland Fire Rescue Benevelent Association still needs to raise about 21 thousand of the 61 thousand dollar price tag to finish paying for the equipment.
