CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Cloudy skies didn't put a damper on the 17th annual TD Beach to Beacon. Although it was warm, runners managed to beat the humidity with encouragement from 10,000 cheering fans.
More than 6,000 runners began their journey shortly after eight o'clock. Bedan Koroki from Kenya was the first person to cross the finish line, clocking in at 27.36.
Runners raised their arms in triumph as they crossed the finish line. Congratulated by Joan Benoit Samuelson with high-fives. They say competing in a race as prestigious as the Beach to Beacon is a memorable experience.
"Like some of the greatest runners in the world here, which was amazing I could just walk down the street and see Shalane Flanagan walk past me," said Jaime Schmidt of Lancaster, NH.
