SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A longtime volunteer camped out on a roof to raise money and awareness for a local program.

Kevin Fitzpatrick was on the roof of Jimmy the Greek's in South Portland from noon Friday until early Wednesday for the South Portland nonprofit Strive. Fitzpatrick said he would stay on the roof until he reaches his goal of $15,000 for the nonprofit, or convinces 500 people to register for the program's nonprofit 5k race on Sept. 6. Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, he met the $15,000 goal.

Strive is a nonprofit that helps teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. It offers support and training in the areas that are difficult, including fundamental academic skills, leadership potential, economic opportunities through continuing education and work skills.

Last year, Fitzpatrick raised more than $8,500 during this event. To donate or learn more about Strive, visit their website.
