AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Officials will discuss the Lac-Megantic fiery derailment at the Emergency Response Conference Wednesday.
The train derailment on July 6, 2013 caused more than 40 deaths and fire destroyed a large portion of the downtown area of the small Canadian town. Maine firefighters helped with the situation.
At Wednesday's meeting, emergency officials will discuss what can be done in emergency railway incidents and how Maine's emergency responders can be more prepared.
The conference has also covered, or will discuss today, how to approach or plan for an active shooter in businesses or institutions, an overall assessment of Maine's school safety, how to best evacuate a hospital and wild fire situations.
