AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - There were tears and prayers and even some precious memories shared at the unveiling of a memorial for Maine's homicide victims.
The Maine Murder Victims' Memorial Monument in Holy Family Cemetery in Augusta was dedicated Sunday.
Family and friends of some of the 83 people whose names are carved on the black granite tablets attended to remember their loved ones and read their names.
The memorial was made possible by the Maine Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children. Members of the group said connecting with other people who have been affected by murder is important in grief recovery.
Group member Arthur Jette says the names on the memorial were submitted by family members, and he anticipates more names being added in the future.
