BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- An old school building that's been empty in the city for years is now in the process of being town down.

Public works crews in Brewer began demolishing the old State Street school this week. The school closed down back in 2011 when Brewer Community School first opened its doors.

City officials say they expect the demolition to be complete within a few days. They say the work shouldn't affect travel on roads around the school.

Community Housing of Maine is currently looking at putting new affordable housing on the old site.
