NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine -- Firefighters fought a fully involved home on Lover's Lane in New Gloucester Thursday morning.

The one male resident woke up to smoke detectors just after midnight. He searched for a fire in his home, but only found smoke. He then ran to a neighbor's house to call for help.

"The high winds, icy and narrow driveway made the extinguishing and providing water to the fire extremely difficult," said Captain Scott Doyle.

Firefighter's had to lay a water supply hose-line more than 500 feet by hand to due to the conditions. The driveway was approximately 1,000 feet in length. Firefighters used more than 15,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze.

More than 45 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the call. There were no injuries.
