WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A female police officer is suing the city of Westbrook for sexual harassment.
Officer Melissa May has been working for the Westbrook Police Department since 2009. May claims that for the last several years she has dealt with a hostile work environment, sexual harassment and discrimination based on her gender and in retaliation for being a whistle blower. May said many of the problems began after she issued a speeding ticket to the girlfriend of a fellow officer.
The Mayor of Westbook, Coleen Hilton said the city has attempted to address May's concerns and is disappointed that she decided to take this to court. Hilton said the city will continue to try to resolve her grievances.
