SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS CENTER) - After two unsuccessful tries as a UMaine player, former captain, and current Union College assistant, John Ronan finally experienced what it's like to win an NCAA final on Saturday.
The volunteer assistant coach for the Dutchmen was on the bench and the ice for the celebration in Philadelphia when the program won it's first ever NCAA title.
"It was amazing. You know, anytime you make it to the Frozen Four it's special. Unfortunately, my two previous trips didn't go that well, but this time around it was amazing. You know, those guys were on a mission and I'm so proud of that team for what they accomplished," he said.
Ronan lost his championship games in 2002 (4-3 in OT to Minnesota) and 2004 (1-0 to Denver).
