WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --

Classes A and B competed in the Eastern Maine tennis finals today at Colby College in Waterville.

On the girls side of things, Hampden Academy took on the two time defending state champs from Brunswick. In number 1 singles play, Ashley Woodside of Hampden wasn't able to tame Brunswick's Maisey Silverman. The Dragons won the match 5-0 and will move into the state finals on Saturday.

The class B girls also played this afternoon, with the Waterville Purple Panthers beat top seeded MDI 4-1.

On the boys side of things it was Hampden again, this time taking on the eagles of Mt. Ararat. And they certainly were a challenge. In number 1 singles Mt. Ararat's Nick Mathieu topped Oakley Kilgore in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The eagles also prevailed in the number one doubles match, Trevor mayo and Eric Knight taking down Brandon Chasse and Matt Harris. The Eagles went on to win their first Eastern Maine class A title.
