READING, Pa. (NEWS CENTER) - It was a long seven plus months for Portland Sea Dogs starter Henry Owens, but it was worth the wait as he prized Red Sox prospect opened the 2014 season with a no-hitter.

Owens became the first Portland pitcher to throw a complete-game no-hitter as the Sea Dogs won their rain-shortened opener at Reading 5-0. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to rain.

The line for Owens: 6.0 innings pitched, 0 hits, 9 strikeouts, and two walks.

It's the third no-hitter in Sea Dogs history. The previous two were combined by multiple pitchers.

Fellow highly-touted prospect Mookie Betts impressed in his Sea Dogs debut as the lead-off hitter hit a home run in his first at-bat en route to 4-for-4 day at the plate with three runs scored.
