CHICAGO, Illinois (NEWS CENTER) - Enfield native Matt Mulligan's NFL career has been that of a journeyman playing for six teams in his first six years. His seventh season will have at least one more stop as he's agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears.
The former UMaine and Husson player signed with the Green Bay Packers during free agency last off-season only to be released prior to the season on August 31. The Penobscot Valley alum signed with the New England Patriots on September 3, was released two days later, then re-signed with the team on September 10 and remained with them for the rest of the season.
Mulligan, a tight end who's predominantly used as a run-blocker, caught two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown. He has 16 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns for his career.
The 29-year has also played for the Miami Dolphins (2008), Tennessee Titans (2008-09), New York Jets (2009-11), and St. Louis Rams (2012).
